About 30 minutes from Bayonne, in the village of Bidache, the Brasserie Xarnegu has settled in a beautiful 17th century building restored to the taste of light.
At his head, Sandrine and Thomas, who have made a local institution (formerly Les Voyageurs) a living place, open and deeply attached to its territory. The name isn't trivial. Xarnegu "Charnegou en gascon" refers to this mixed territory at the crossroads of the Basque Country, Béarn and the Landes.
A blending area where languages, cultures and kitchens have always come together. A word that fits perfectly with the spirit of the house. A real brewery, in every sense of the word.
Here you can stop at any time: a coffee in the morning, an aperitif beer, a charcuterie board in the afternoon, a full meal in the afternoon or evening. That's it, a brewery: a place that lives from morning to evening, where everyone finds their place, the usual one who picks up his sandwich, the table of friends, the family on Sunday, the worker who gives himself a serious lunch break.
The menu accepts this charnegue mixture claimed: duck magret, local meats, homemade fries that are unanimous, but also more exotic detours like beef-sautéed noodles. Tapas, children's menu, worker's meals, take-away formulas, group meals: there is an answer for every desire and every moment.
A framework that invites you to stay. The room of the old building has been tastefully redesigned, and the terrace becomes one of the good spots of the village.
The hotel also thought about families: accessible by stroller, children's games, suitable equipment, high chairs, real comfort for parents.
As for the atmosphere, we are on casual, warm, generous. This is what comes out of all the voices: the quality of the products, the tasty cuisine, the smiling welcome.
A perfect stage in a country 20 minutes from La Bastide-Clairence (ranked among the most beautiful villages in France), Bidache is also a good excuse to stroll: heritage trail of the Château des Gramont, walk along the Bidouze, treasure hunt Terra Aventura.
